FAQs

FAQs

  • Are all your film festivals/awards competitions IMDb approved?

Yes, all of our festivals/awards competitions are IMDb approved.

  • Are all official selections screened to a live audience?

Not all official selections will be selected for screening, but even those which are not selected for screening may still win awards.

  • What is the difference between an 'official selection' and a 'screening selection'?

To be in the running to receive an award, a film submission must first be approved by our event organisers as an 'official selection'. Film submissions are then chosen from the pool of official selections by the jury and event organisers to be screened at the festival in front of a live audience; these are the 'screening selections'. Screening selections are not always chosen based solely on the marks/ratings given by the jury, and may be chosen instead based a number of other factors, such as; how well the film may compliment the wider festival programme based on its genre, duration, language/subtitling, and suitability for the audience.

  • How are the award levels determined?

Awards are determined based on the average scores as given by the jury across the festival season. The exception to this is the audience choice award, which is voted for by attendees of our live in-person film screenings.

  • Where can I download award laurels?

Award laurels can be downloaded from the 'laurel' page of our website which can be found here.

  • Why has my submission category changed?

Our festival organisers and jury may change the category of your submission if it is deemed that your work may fit better or achieve a higher award level in a different category.

  • Where is the venue?

In our brief history we have used a variety of venues for our events ranging from university campuses, community centres, village halls and independent cinemas. The venues may differ from event to event and from season to season, but the venue will typically accommodate between 50 and 100 attendees, and will usually be located in rural towns/villages in the south-west of England in the United Kingdom. If you wish to find out more about the venues for upcoming film screenings, we recommend checking the relevant festival page on FilmFreeway which will have up-to-date details for each event.

  • Can I buy tickets to the film screenings?

Typically we do not sell tickets to our events. The seating at the live film screenings is prioritised firstly for the cast and crew of selected films, who will be contacted and formally invited to attend by event organisers. Seating may also be reserved for students studying filmmaking or related subjects at local colleges and universities, industry professionals, journalists/film critics; the reason for this is to maximise the usefulness of our live events for networking opportunities between different professionals and attending filmmakers. Any unreserved seats are typically offered for free to local residents living nearby the hosting venue. If you wish to attend an upcoming film screening and would like a place on the guest list then please express your interest using the contact form which can be found here.
